Free University Education in Germany
Germany's universities are recognised internationally; in the Academic Ranking Of World Universities (ARWU) for 2008,6 of the top 100 universities in the world are in Germany, and 18 of the top 200.Most of the German universities are public institutions, charging fees of only around €60-200 per semester for each student. Heidelberg University,Cologne University,Leipzig University,Rostock University,Greifswald University, Freiburg University , LMU Munich and the University of Tübingen are the oldest universities of the Germany.However universities in Germany are research based.
Admissions
The foreign students can apply to a German university through many ways and application depends mostly on the course applied for or on applicant's origin. Students who wish to attend a Fachhochschule must hold the Abitur or the Fachhochschulreife or other prescribed equivalent certificate,diploma and degree.The applications are lodged and watched as per notified dates through a joint on line system by students themselves.
Tuition fees
Most of the German universities( Almost 250 ) are public institutions and as per Constitution of Germany students study without fee payment. In 2005 the public universities introduced tuition fees but it was mostly ceased by the end of 2014. A good number of private and public institutions award scholarships.There is a law that ensures that people who face financial difficulties can receive up to €650 per month for four to five years if they or their parents cannot afford all of the costs involved with study half of this money is an interest-free loan.If any student take long time to complete his degree he is require to pay at least €500 per semester.The students have to bear boarding,books and food charges themselves.
Degrees
As per Bologna Declaration new structure of Bachelor's degree and the master's degree and ECTS credits was introduced. The German universities are internationally recognised and perform very well in international ranking of universities. According to QS World University Ranking Germany was ranked at 3rd position in the year 2011.
Universities of Applied Sciences
Universities of Applied Sciences offer degrees like other Universities but they mostly insist on applied science. Here the students can start their courses of study together with graduate.Internship semesters are mandatory so the students are better trained.The difference between the two is narrowing with the passage of time. Due to the Bologna process, bachelor's and master's degrees are being introduced to other public universities and universities of applied sciences in like manner.
Language
The student must demonstrate knowledge of German or Englisg through provision of prescribed certificates to able to get addmission in German universities
